On behalf of the Management Committee of the Biofilm Specialist Group: welcome in Shanghai. For three days we will be discussing biofilm processes, but also meeting old friends and making new friends. Both aspects of the conference – discussing biofilm processes and networking – are important to the mission of the Biofilm Specialist Group, which is to facilitate exchange of information and to foster a community of water professionals dedicated to studying biofilm processes and to applying biofilm-based technologies in water and wastewater treatment. The Organizing Committee and the Program Committee of the conference have worked tirelessly to make this a successful and memorable meeting. I’d like to thank them for their work and dedication to the task, and to thank you for your contributions and for coming to Shanghai. I look forward to meeting you all at the conference.
